Samsung has released a software upgrade for the SCH-I760, which is recommended to be installed. This update includes an
upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 and numerous enhancements/corrections.
The update may take up to 10 minutes to complete if the system is
already set up.

Upgrade Tool For Windows XP/2000 Owners
|

This Upgrade Tool will only function on
operating systems running Microsoft Windows XP (Home
or Professional) w/Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows 2000
w/Service Pack 4 (SP4).

One: Install

Two: Install The Samsung Modem Drivers Onto
The Computer
|
|
- Double click SCH-i760 WM 6_1 Upgrade_Tool_For_XP.exe.
- Read over the EULA, accept the terms, and click Next.

- The Upgrade Tool will perform a system check for required
software to perform the update.
Note: In the majority of case scenarios, the Samsung USB
Modem Driver will need to be added to the PC. This is normal.
If the drivers have already been added, proceed to “Step Three”.
- The Upgrade Tool will now launch the installation program
to install the drivers on the computer.

- Please read and accept the Agreement, click Yes to
continue.

- Click Next to continue.

- Click Finish. The computer will restart automatically
and launch the Upgrade Tool upon bootup into Windows.

Three: Verifying
Installation Of The Samsung Modem Drivers On The Computer
|
|
- Minimize the Upgrade Tool. Verifying the Samsung
Modem Driver installation is important to successfully update
to Windows Mobile 6.1.

- On the SCH-i760, press Start > Settings > System
> Data Connection. Select AS the modem through USB
and press Ok
- Attach the USB cable from the computer to the handset. You
may see notifications indicating device driver installation.
This is normal.
- Upon the completion of the install, click Start,
click Run and type in the search field devmgmt.msc
and press Enter on the keyboard.
- From The Device Manager window, click the + next to Modems
and verify SAMSUNG Mobile Modem is listed.

- Click the + next to Ports (COM & LPT) to verify
that SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM)
is listed.

- Click the + next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
to verify that SAMSUNG USB Composite Device is listed.

- After verification of installation, close the Device Manager
and disconnect the USB cable from the phone.

If you DO NOT SEE the three device types (Samsung
Composite, Samsung Modem, and Samsung Port) or they
have yellow ’s
or red X’s,
it is recommended to contact Samsung Customer Care to
resolve this issue prior to attempting to flash
the handset. Please contact us toll free at 888-987-4357.

Step Four: Backup
Data From The SCH-i760 To The Computer Using ActiveSync

- On the phone, press Start > Settings > System >
Data Connection. Select Internal Data Call and press
Ok.
- Re-connect the phone to the USB cable (which should still
be connected to the computer’s USB port).
- If not previously done, create a standard partnership between
the computer and the SCH-i760.
- Select the items you wish to backup, and then allow the
synchronization to complete.
- When synchronization is complete and the selected data has
been verified to have been successfully synchronized into Microsoft
Outlook, disconnect the USB cable from the phone and power the
phone off.

If you utilize File Encryption on the handset, please
ensure data is relocated off the device and card to
a desktop PC. Otherwise, there is no way to recover
the cipher key after the flash thus your data can no
longer be read.

Five: Begin
Software Update Process
|
|
- Please close all open programs except the Upgrade Tool and
maximize that window.
- Please acknowledge the instructions and proceed by clicking
Continue.

- Since we have backed up all desired data previously, we
can continue with the update. Click Yes.
- The Upgrade Tool is preparing to establish a connection
with the handset.

- The Upgrade Tool is in a “Ready State”. The Tool is preparing
connection between the computer and the handset.

- The Upgrade Tool has changed over to a “Detect State”. It
will take a few moments to finalize the connection.

- The Upgrade Tool should temporarily disable
USB support for ActiveSync, automatically.
Note: If there
is a need to manually disable the connection, click Start, All Programs, Microsoft ActiveSync.
Click File, Connection Settings, remove the checkmark
from Allow USB Connections, and click Ok.
- The SCH-i760 ROM is being updated (to BJ10) with a new image
from to Windows Mobile 6.1. It will be a three part process.
It will update the Eboot sector, PDA sector, and last the Phone
sector. Actually downloading time will vary depending upon local
conditions however it should take roughly 10-15 minutes to finish.



- To complete the process, click Finish.

The SCH-I760 will automatically reboot when the update process
has been completed. If your device is turned on successfully, all downloading procedures
are nearly finished.

Six: Verifying The SCH-I760 Software Version
|

After completion of the upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1, let’s
verify the software on the phone is accurate.
- To check the software version on the handset, click Start
> Settings > System > Version
- Both the PDA and Phone versions should show S:i760.07
V .BJ10.

a single purpose, to upgrade from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows
