Can I Assign MP3 Files As Ringtones On My SGH-A767 (Propel) Phone?

Yes, the SGH-A767 (Propel) handset provides the ability to playback MP3 files, assign them as a contact ringtone, alarm tone or as the incoming call ringtone. The music player supports audio files with extensions MP3, MP4/AAC, M4A, 3GP/AAC, 3GP/AMR, WAV, WMA, REAL or MIDI.

Audio profiles contain all the information associated with the audio settings and volume levels of the handset. This includes ringtones, alarms, notifications, and system sounds. The profile message alert type & tone allows you to choose the alert type that sounds when receiving a new Text messages, Multimedia messages, and Email. There are four different audio profiles that are preloaded and all have the ability to be edited.

Note: Audio files less than 300 KB are treated as ringtones, whereas audio files which are greater than 300 KB are considered as Music. You cannot set an MP3 file as a ringtone if it is larger than 300 KB.

You can also purchase a variety of multimedia files, such as ringtones, graphics, applications, multimedia contents, and so on from the WAP browser and download them to your phone’s memory. The phone has embedded links to the WAP sites providing you with download services, preset by your service provider.

 To assign an MP3 file as the call ringtone, caller ringtone or alarm tone follow the steps below:

  1. While in standby mode, press the right soft key for Menu
  2. Select My Stuff (7)
  3. Highlight either the On Phone tab or the On Card tab, using the navigation keys
    • If the Phone Tab, highlight the Audio folder, using the navigation keys
    • Press the  key to view the contents
  4. Highlight either the Tones or Music folder, using the navigation keys
  5. Press the  key to view the contents
  6. Highlight the desired MP3 file, using the navigation keys
  7. Press the left soft key for Options
  8. Select Set as (4)
  9. Select Ringtone (1) from the following:
    • Call Ringtone (1)
      • Highlight the desired sound Profile, using the navigation keys
      • Press the left soft key to Save the MP3 file as the Call Ringtone for that Profile
    • Caller Ringtone (2)
      • Select Contact List (1)
      • Highlight the desired Contact, using the navigation keys
      • Press the left soft key for Select to assign the MP3 file as the Caller Ringtone
    • Alarm Tone (3)
      • Highlight the desired Alarm, using the navigation keys
      • Press the left soft key for Options
      • Choose Select (1) to assign the MP3 file as the Alarm Tone
      • Press the left soft key to Save the Alarm settings

To edit profiles follow the steps below:

  1. While in standby mode, press the right soft key for Menu
  2. Select Settings (9)
  3. Select Sound Profile (1)
  4. Highlight the Profile to be edited, using the navigation keys, then press the key to Edit one of the following:

For the Normal, Driving or Outdoor Profiles: (See Steps 1-4 above)

  1. Highlight the Call tab, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Highlight Call Alert Type, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight the desired Call Alert Type setting, using the navigation keys, from the following:
      • Melody
      • Increasing Melody
      • Vibration then Melody
      • Vibration & Melody
      • Vibration & Increasing Melody
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Call Alert Type setting
    • Highlight Call Ringtone, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight either the On Phone tab or On Card tab, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Navigate to and highlight the desired Call Ringtone
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Call Ringtone setting
    • Highlight Ringtone Volume, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Select the desired Ringtone Volume setting, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Ringtone Volume setting
  2. Highlight the Message tab, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Highlight Message Alert Type, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight desired Message Alert Type setting, using the navigation keys, from the following:
      • Melody
      • Vibration
      • Vibration & Melody
      • Mute
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Message Alert Type setting
    • Highlight Message Alert Tone, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight the desired Message Alert Tone, using the navigation keys
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Message Alert Tone setting
    • Highlight Message Alert Repetition, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight either Once or Periodic, using the navigation keys
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Message Alert Repetition setting
    • Highlight Message Tone Volume, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Select the desired Message Tone Volume setting, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Message Tone Volume setting
  3. Highlight the Phone tab, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Highlight Keypad Tone, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight the desired Keypad Tone setting, using the navigation keys, from the following:
      • Beep
      • Xylophone
      • Mute
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Keypad Tone setting
    • Highlight Power On Type, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight desired Power On Type setting, using the navigation keys, from the following:
      • Melody
      • Vibration
      • Vibration & Melody
      • Mute
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Power On Type setting
    • Highlight Power Off Type, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Highlight desired Power Off Type setting, using the navigation keys, from the following:
      • Melody
      • Vibration
      • Vibration & Melody
      • Mute
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Power Off Type setting
    • Highlight Phone Sound Volume, using the navigation keys, then press the key for Change
    • Select the desired Phone Sound Volume setting, using the left or right navigation keys
    • Press the left soft key for Select to save the Phone Sound Volume setting
  4. Press the left soft key to Save the Normal, Driving or Outdoor Profile settings
