page for acceptance and download of the file, it is

This Downloader Tool will only function
on operating systems running x32 bit Microsoft Windows
Vista (Home, Premium, Ultimate, Business)

compatible with any other product including
the original BlackJack (SGH-i607).

Step
One: Install Microsoft Windows
Mobile Device Center On The Computer
|

Step
Two: Install
The Samsung Modem Drivers Onto The Computer.
|
- Insert the companion CD into your computer and browse
the CD for the modem drivers which are located in the \OEM\Applications\SAMSUNG_MODEM
folder.
- Double click Setup.exe
- Alternately, the modem drivers may be downloaded from
here.
- Double-click on the file setup.exe and follow
the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.
- Driver Installation will begin with the following display,
select Install to continue.

- The driver package has been successfully installed.
Please click OK to continue.

- The SGH-i617’s USB connection must be changed from ActiveSync
to Modem.
- On the phone, press Start > Settings > Connections
> USB.
- Using the directional pad, change the selection from
ActiveSync to Modem, then select Done (left
soft key).
- An Information dialog will notify that ActiveSync will
not work if you select this, press Ok (left soft key).
- Connect the BlackJack II directly to the computer using
the included USB cable. The Found New Hardware wizard
should then be displayed on the computer.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the Samsung
modem driver installation.
- In addition to the SAMSUNG Mobile Modem, the
SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM),
and Samsung USB Composite Device drivers are automatically
installed during the setup process.
- Upon the completion of the install, click Start,
and type in the search field devmgmt.msc and press
Enter on the keyboard. The image below indicates where
to type in the command circled in red.

- From The Device Manager window, click the + next to
Modems and verify SAMSUNG Mobile Modem is
listed.

- Click the + next to Ports (COM & LPT) to
verify that SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic Serial Port
(WDM) is listed.

- Click the + next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
to verify that SAMSUNG USB Composite Device is listed.
- After verification of installation, close the Device
Manager and disconnect the USB cable from the phone.

If you DO NOT SEE the three
device types (Samsung Composite, Samsung Modem,
and Samsung Port) or they have yellow ’s
or red X’s,
it is recommended to contact Samsung Customer Care
to resolve this issue prior to you attempting to
flash the handset. Please contact us toll free at
888-987-4357.

Step
Three: Backup Data
From The SGH-I617 To The Computer Using Windows
Mobile Device Center
|
- On the phone, press Start > Settings > Connections
> USB. Using the track wheel, change the selection from
Modem to ActiveSync, then select Done (left soft key).
- Re-connect the phone to the USB cable (which should still
be connected to the computer’s USB port).
- If not previously done, create a standard partnership between
the computer and your BlackJack II.
- Select the items you wish to backup, and then allow the
synchronization to complete.
- When synchronization is complete and the selected data has
been verified to have been successfully synchronized into Microsoft
Outlook, disconnect the USB cable from the phone and power the
phone off.

If you utilize File Encryption on the handset,
please ensure data is relocated off the device and card
to a desktop PC. Otherwise, there is no way to recover
the cipher key after the flash thus your data can no
longer be read.
|

Step
Four: Begin Software
Update Process
|
- Please
close all open programs and disconnect the SGH-i617 from
the USB cable.
- On the
computer, double-click on the file BlackJackII_WM6_1_Upgrade_For_Vista
- The following
image shows the program's opening screen.
- For the
ID prompt, enter 5688
- For the
Key prompt, enter 9231
- Click on
the Confirm button.

- The Downloader
Tool’s Welcome window should appear. Please read over the
caution notice, insert the checkmark, and click Next.

- Please
review the following instructions, insert the checkmark,
and select Next.

- The Downloader
Tool is automatically changing the port mapping to place
the handset into download mode. This will take a few moments.

- The SGH-i617
should now be ready to receive the software update. Please
click the Start in the lower right hand corner to begin.
The download process will proceed through a series of steps.
- The
handset should display “USB Downloader-BADA PC Connection
OK, Single Mode”.

Please
do not interrupt the download process by removing
the cable, closing the downloader tool, powering
off the computer, etc…
|
- The
upgrade process will progress through several different
phases.



- Click on
the Done button in the lower right-hand corner.

The
BlackJack II will automatically reboot when the update process has
been completed. If your device is turned on successfully, all
downloading procedures are nearly finished.

Step
Five: Performing a Full Reset
|
After the download has completed, it is recommended
that the user perform a command line reset. This is to ensure the
EFS area is purged of all irrelevant data.
- Once the handset has rebooted to the Today Screen, enter
the following code: *2767*3855#. The handset should display
a message “Formatting- Please wait a moment”.
- The phone will reboot after the Full Reset as this is
normal operation.

Step
Six: Verifying The BlackJack II Software Version
|
After the full reset operation is completed, it is recommended
that the user verify the software version of the phone. Please power
off the handset and insert your SIM card. Power the handset back
on and see the below images.
- To check the software version, enter the following information
on the phone: *#1234#
- Both the PDA and Phone versions should show i617UCHJ1
IMPORTANT NOTE: If
the handset shows the information is updated in one area and not
in the other or you encounter an error during the flash process,
please contact Samsung Customer Care at 888-987-4357.

It Come With Windows Mobile 6.1?
- Yes. Windows Mobile 6.1 will be rolled into current production process.
- If I Have x64 bit Edition for Windows
Vista, Is The Downloader Tool Compatible With My OS?
- No. The x64 bit architecture requires separate modem
drivers that are not available.
